DISCLAIMER: I'm suffering from serious writers block,
I'm not even sure this is a real poem.
Enjoy my mess.
-----------------------------------------
I don't want to write a love poem,
I'm not sure what love is.
Instead I'll write a hate poem,
'cus they kind of go hand in hand.

I hate how quick we are to use it,
We sound so ignorant.
Don't say it if you don't mean it,
You can't mean it, you don't know what it is.

How will we know if we're in love?
Don't tell me you just know.
This isn't just some fairytale,
Your actions DO have consequence,
And your lies can fuck us up.

I like this a lot! I have the same feelings and I’ve gotten into heated discussions about it because “just knowing” makes no sense.

I think you’re right that love poems and hate poems are related, and it’s incredibly disturbing how love can transform into hate, each one borne up by the sincerest passion. And not knowing what love really is is also a fine subject for a poem (did you read Chandler’s poem on the subject?). In a few of your lines, you refer continuously to “it,” and I think that refers to love, but you probably want to clarify that for us. It seems to me that toward the end of your poem, you find who you’re addressing; earlier you say “we” are quick to use it, but then begin addressing a (specific?) “you.” Can this poem be rewritten to take that “you” into consideration throughout? Are you warning caution not to skate too quickly into love, which is dangerous? What’s dangerous about it?

“Caution: A Hate Poem” strikes me as a funny title. Maybe in response to a poem such as Marvell’s “To His Coy Mistress”…

I like the love rather hate poem…I think it goes above what we call live and looks at it in a whole nother way. I don’t think it is a mess love is a mess hate is stright hate? Does that make sence?
